I am ecstatic that I got to talk to Delilah S. Dawson nearly face to face! *Kermit Flail* My very first review ever for The Book Tart was for her debut novel Wicked As They Come and I fell completely in love with her storytelling and the world of Sang. So I am very very excited to help get the word out about the second full length novel in her Blud Series, Wicked As She Wants is out today! (get it… we’ll wait)
Delilah was my Google Giggle Hangout guest of honor 😀 and we chat books, perfume and turducken. Yes, for reals. lol Enjoy the silly.
I love the writing style of Delilah S. Dawson! I fell in love with it when I read Wicked As She Comes last spring and with every book I’ve just fallen harder. I see her stories in living color. They read very visual and paint pictures in my imagination. The feelings and emotions she invokes can be beautiful, snarky, painful, sensual, scary and wicked… and all this just in a novella!
We LOVE books. We’re crazy for books and boys. So we decided Valentine’s week was a great time to share some of our favorite guys and asked their authors to join in the fun. Each of the paricipating authors has interviewed their guy and a few of them wrote limericks too! Some are very, very good and some are deliciously bad. The boys are from a variety of fiction genres, Romance, Contemporary Romance, Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Urban Fantasy, Sci-fi, Steampunk, New Adult and YA ….but they all have guys we heart!

I had to do a vlog and chat and spaz out about Delilah S. Dawson’s new novella. I love the world of Sang and The Mysterious Madam Morpho is an excellent entry into the series if you haven’t read the first book. I also needed a reason to wear my dress and steampunk corset (I need more steampunky accesories though… I love my hat!) where was I? Oh! Anyway, I recommend you try this book and this weekend (ends Sunday, Oct. 14th at Midnight I am having a contest to win The Mysterious Madam Morpho and Wicked As They Come. Click HERE to enter.
Oh how I missed you Sang! If you fell in love with Delilah’s storytelling while reading Wicked As They Come and have longed to return to the world of Sang, The Mysterious Madam Morpho is a delicious treat to help alleviate the agony of waiting for the next full length Blud novel Wicked as She Wants next spring. If you have never visited before, this novella is a excellent introduction to the series and for $0.99 it’s a title I highly recommend you pick up if you enjoy paranormal romance, fantasy, steampunk or just very creative world building and characters that grab you from the first page.
This book starts out with the couple from the first novel, Criminy and Tish, enjoying an interlude in their wagon when they are interupted by a knock on their door. *giggle* I adore the two of them together and it was wonderful to see them again as they meet Madam Morpho.
I love Imogen, the Mysterious Madam Morpho, she’s brave, clever and determined. There was so much to admire about her. She’s a scientist and very smart. Imogen hasn’t had a nice life. She’s been neglected, used and abused and she’s run away to Criminy’s Clockwork Caravan to excape a miserable past. “She didn’t like to think of herself as one of those foolish, tremulous women who needed their hands held through life. In fact, she had elbowed her way through university with more fortitude than all the males in her class, smirking to herself each time one of them had dropped like a dead fly under the pressure…”I loved her feisty spirit and her bravery. She’s running from a dark past and Delilah lets Imogen’s story unfold in a suspenseful way that kept me intrigued. I immediately cared about Imogen and was rooting for her to find happiness.
I am beyond thrilled to have Delilah S. Dawson visiting The Book Tart today!!! *bouncing on the couch* I read her first novel in the Blud series, Wicked As They Come and it was my first official book review on my site back in May. I adore her world building and am ecstatic to introduce her to ya’ll if you’ve missed the first book and to celebrate her book birthday with today’s release of her Blud novella, The Mysterious Madam Morpho. It’s an entry point into her delicious steampunk world if you haven’t read Delilah before. And for those of us who have… It’s a welcome treat as we wait for the second full length Blud novel Wicked As She Wants out April 30th.
OH! Delilah’s site is promoting a contest for 3 lucky winner’s registration fees to Olde City, New Blood, the upcoming urban fantasy/paranormal romance mini-con in St. Augustine, FL next February. There’s only a few days left to enter, check it out, Click HERE to go see the contest.

Have you ever heard of a Bludman? They’re rather like you and me—only more fabulous, immortal, and mostly indestructible. (They’re also very good kissers.)Delilah S. Dawson’s darkly tempting debut drops her unsuspecting heroine into a strange faraway land for a romantic adventure that’s part paranormal, part steampunk . . . and completely irresistible. When Tish Everett forces open the ruby locket she finds at an estate sale, she has no idea that a deliciously rakish Bludman has cast a spell just for her. She wakes up in a surreal world, where Criminy Stain, the dashing proprietor of a magical traveling circus, curiously awaits. At Criminy’s electric touch, Tish glimpses a tantalizing future, but she also foresees her ultimate doom. Before she can decide whether to risk her fate with the charming daredevil, the locket disappears, and with it, her only chance to return home. Tish and Criminy battle roaring sea monsters and thundering bludmares, vengeful ghosts and crooked Coppers in a treacherous race to recover the necklace from the evil Blud-hating Magistrate. But if they succeed, will Tish forsake her fanged suitor and return to her normal life, or will she take a chance on an unpredictable but dangerous destiny with the Bludman she’s coming to love?
Ok- this is my first official review as The Book Tart… It’s of Wicked As They Come by Delilah S. Dawson. It’s the first book in a trilogy and it’s Amazing! Last weekend I curled up in my chair and read all day, well most of the day, life interrupted a bit. <g> But I did NOT want to leave my chair. I was engrossed, immersed in the adventures of Letitia and the world of Sang. Wicked As They Come is the first Steampunk book I’ve read and I absolutely LOVED it. You really, really need to read it! I’m going write this review like I’m telling my friends about the book. Cause I don’t know how else to do it! :p
The heroine, Tish, or Letitia, is a hospice nurse and goes to an estate sale for a patient who passed away. As she’s wandering around an item attracts her interest and she picks up an old locket. She receives a emergency call and dashes out accidently taking the locket with her. She feels a bit wicked but decides no one will miss it. At home she tries to clean it and when she pries the locket open red liquid splatters out and stains her hand. The locket reveals a portrait of a man she refers to as extra-naughty Mr. Darcy. Side note- I loved how Tish thought. She was snarky and relatable and very likable. I wanted to be her friend! Ok, so she goes to bed wearing the locket and wakes up to what she thinks is a very vivid dream, naked! And her naughty Mr. Darcy is staring at her. <eg> His name is Criminy (in her head she comments that it rhymes with Jiminy Cricket) He is a Bludman and he sent the locket out into the worlds to find his mate. *sigh* I adored Criminy, he talked a bit like Spike from Buffy- calling Letitia love. And he’s what Tish and I would call a vampire, a Bludman, who drinks blood to survive. Once Leticia accepts that this isn’t a dream she’s actually in another world, one with very different rules, we are taken on an adventure with her.The world of Sang has Bludmen and Pinkies (all the people who don’t live on blood). Most of the wildlife have become blood drinkers. She finds that out the hard way when a cute little bunny hops up and bites her on the ankle! The Pinkies protect themselves by covering up as much skin as possible; this is where the Victorian style clothing comes in! Buttoned up to the neck, down to the toes, corsets and bustles oh, my. Criminy is the ringmaster of a traveling carnival and much to her amazement, he can perform real magic.
Leticia and Criminy are very attracted to each other *Yum!* But, this isn’t one of those stories where the character wakes up in another world and is all, “Yay! I’ll stay. My old life was so horrible”. She has a grandmother that she loves very much and has been taking care of. She’s torn between two worlds, one with a man she could love and another with and her grandmother that she loves. The story explores her struggles with the choices she is given and the strength she discovers.
We are immersed in the world of Sang, filled with clockwork creations, sea monsters and bludbunnies! Letitia discovers in this new world, she has a gift too. She is a Glancer and when she touches someone’s hand she gets a glimpse of their past or future.I was totally sucked into this world and captured by the characters. I was drawn to Letitia and Criminy and their journey. I was rooting for them and enjoyed watching their relationship deepen. The story also has an external conflict besides Letitia being pulled between two worlds. There is political unrest in the world of Sang… And that’s not something that can be resolved in one story- the racism and fear between the two peoples is extreme. I am excited to see where Ms. Dawson takes us. I want it now! *stomps foot* Aack! But I will be eagerly awaiting the tale. I am hooked on this world and the characters and want to continue the journey.
It’s a delightfully fun, creative, sexy and sweet book! I was laughing out loud throughout the story, and on the edge of my seat during some of the scenes. There’s adventure and intrigue and passion. The chemistry between the main characters burns the pages *sigh* I highly recommend this book! If you like well drawn characters, strong, unique world building, romance, fantasy, steam punk and intriguing machines… Go Buy it!
