Win a copy of one of my fav books this year- Blade Song + My Review

I read Blade Song one afternoon last week and didn’t want the book to end. It’s that good. I love urban fantasy, worlds that are recognizable but have fantasy elements like magic, shape changers and vampires to name a few… plus desserts with zero calories (I made that up :p I would totally pack up and move to a fantasy world where that was true! 🙂 )

This book was written by one of my long time fav authors Shiloh Walker. She writes delicious contemporary and paranormal romance including The Hunter’s series and now she’s adding to her resume  writing under the pseudonym of J.C. Daniels. The books written under the J.C. Daniels name will be urban fantasy and occasionally erotic romance titles. Her first urban fantasy title is Blade Song and the heroine started out in a short story you can read here it’s called A Stroke of Dumb Luck and Kit just wouldn’t stop telling her story to Shiloh, sooo she had to write more. Yay!  I’m all for it! <g> More Shiloh to love!

Here’s the blurb for Blade Song…

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

Queen of Tarts Review

I LOVE Blade Song! 5 cherries and chocolate sauce too :p Blade Song is Kit’s story. I can relate to Kit… not in the we both have supernatural powers capacity *snort* but in the way she views the world, her sense of justice and snark. I want her for a best friend. Sometimes in fantasy novels the main character is too super-human and it’s hard to find common ground, that isn’t an auto dislike for me, but it does make it harder to bond with a character. That is not the case here, Kit is half human (go Team Human! lol) and half Aneira [a-nir-a] . The Aneira, also known as Amazons, are a magical race with gifts for fighting and stealth. Kit’s a half breed and considers her talents to be small in comparison to most other supernaturals including vampires, shape shifters and witches, oh my.

The world building is fascinating. The paranormal beings are “out” to humans and governed under the Assembly of Non-Humans. There are areas throughout the country that have a higher population of Non-Humans and East Orlando is one of those locations with humans to NH 5/1 ratio. This is where Kit lives and works as a private eye with her own agency. Business has been rather down for her lately and she’s semi-jokingly considered standing on a street corner with a sign about needing work. Then trouble with a capitol T prowls into her office. Damon wants to hire her to do a job for the leader of the Cat Clan (who’s well, insane). She’s going to say “No way” when Damon shows her a picture of the teenage runaway they want her to track down. Endangered kids, abused children and runaways are her soft spot. Kit has a traumatic past and ran away from an abusive home as a teen. Now that she’s seen the kid she can’t turn her back on him and knows she has to do everything in her power to help him.

Kit starts this investigation with Damon at her side as part of the deal. He’s her shadow and guarantee that she won’t die (if he can help it) before finishing the job for the Cat’s leader. You get to watch her adjust to having a partner of sorts. There was some initial interaction with him that actually made my stomach hurt in pain for her and later on in pain for him as he realizes what his actions had done to her. I was on Kit’s side from the start and just like Kit, it took me a while to warm up to Damon… But now I’m a Damon fan! *sigh*

There is a strong mystery element to this story as the investigation into the missing teen progresses. A lot of action and intrigue and yes, some romance too. Yum! I loved getting to see Kit in action and seeing how she met the challenges that came her way.  I highly recommend this book, dive into Kit’s world and you will want to stay! I want more. It sounds like the future of the sequel depends on how well this book does… so for my sake- and yours, get the book! 🙂

To help out in my goal of pimping out Blade Song I am giving away at least 1 ebook. If I get 1-19 commenter’s telling me what supernatural being they would like to be I will draw for 1 book. If I get 20-29 I’ll draw for 2, 30-39 I’ll draw 3 winners etc. up to 5 winners. There are ways to earn more chances and get your name in the drawing a few more times but they aren’t required <g>  I am counting comments, not chances, to see how many books I will give away.

  1. This book has been getting great reviews. I’ve always enjoyed Shiloh’s contemporary romances, so I definitely want to check it out. As for supernatural creatures, personally, I’d love to be a dragon. They fly, breathe fire, and hoard pretty shiny things – what more could a girl want?

  2. I would want to be a shapeshifter. It would be neat to see the world from a different perspective.
Thanks for the chance to win JC’s new book.
    Love, love, love Shiloh.

  3. Hm, think I’d go with shifter. The whole ability to turn into an animal (some kind of cat) and use those skills would be cool.

  4. I think witch–to be in control of all kinds of magic seems like a cool thing to be able to do 🙂 (Shapeshifters are up there too–that’s “magical” as well!)

  5. I’d have to say shifter. Especially wolf. Most definitely alpha. Although skin walker sounds good too. Hmm, maybe vamp. Oh, the choices!!!!

  6. Shiloh has great books and I’m happy to find an interview with her and her new release!
I love vampires and shifters, hard for me to choose between them.

  7. I think I would be a shapeshifter, something cool. Like a big cat or a wolf. Vampire I think would be my second choice.

  8. I always wanted to have the power to read minds (it would come with the ability to shut it off at will), I also wouldn’t mind being able to teleport. Oh the money I could save on transportation 🙂

Thanks for the opportunity to win Blade Song

  9. I have seen some great reviews for this book! I am so excited to read it! Thanks for the giveaway. If I was a paranormal creature I would be torn between a shifter (nothing controlled by the moon) or vampires. I don’t want to be an evil type vamp but something with a little more control (not sparkly either).

  10. Thanks to you & quite a few others, Kat, Blade Song got snuck in a little higher on the TBB list. (It was already on the list, because – Hello. Shiloh! – it’s just a little closer to the top now… LOL!)

  11. I’m a Shiloh Walker fan but have not read her J.C. Daniels book. I’d choose to be a wolf shape-shifter 🙂 Thanks for giveaway.

  12. I would like to be a shapeshifter now I really have a reason for being big bones. You know in order to have sets to shifter to my other persona..

  13. I haven’t read any of her JC Daniels books yet but after reading this review I am gonna look for some this looks good. I am almost done with her Hunters right now. And I would want to me a cat shifter all the way!!!

  14. Hi

I have heard many great things about this book. I love Shiloh’s other stories so I know this one will be just as wonderful

    Thanks for the chance

  15. I am torn between a vamp and a wolf shifter…. =) Immortal is fine as long as I could bring my hubby, kids, and my grams with me.

  16. I’d read some Shiloh’s erotic books and love it. She can write an emotional book so well. As for the supernatural race, I choose shifter 🙂
