Me: Lea! Hey Hon! I’m so excited! It’s your book birthday! *Kermit flail* We have a date… Are you a shy date? I hope not! I have cake for dessertinterview couch and I often lick my fingers! 😀 Come in, get comfy on my virtual couch. I am all about the food here and beverages. Coffee? Tea? Rum? Dr. Pepper?

Lea: *Hugs Kat tight*  Yeah, not a shy date, trust me.  I’m so excited to be here with you. Have been looking forward to it since we were introduced. You said the couch right? *Sits down, gets comfy, groans at the amazing awesomeness of the virtual couch* So, what to drink…hmmm. I’ll take a DP *snicker* Uh, Dr. Pepper that is. The drink of champions. You are quite the hostess, Kat. I’ll try not to be greedy but is the cake chocolate? Oh my, it IS chocolate! I love you even MOAR now and I wondered if that was possible.

Me: Of course it’s chocolate! Are you nuts? lol And Dr. Pepper IS the nectar of the gods. 🙂

*Set drink, cake and plates on table* Happy Book Birthday to you. Happy book birthday tooooo you, happy book birthday dear Lea-aaaah. Happy book birthday to youuuuu. *curtsies* Congratulations on the release of Retrieval! *plops down on couch beside Lea* Can you tell me a bit about your writing adventure? Oops! Sorry, swallow your cake first. 😀

Lea: *swallows cake and squees loudly* I cannot tell you how long I’ve been waiting to hear those words. Book birthday—yeah, pretty freaking awesome. You sure you wanna hear my story? It’s probably like a lot of other writers out there but if you’re sure? Okay—I am a writer after all and it’s hard to shut me up once I get started. Do you have a virtual Book_Tart whip? I may need you to bring it out to get me to shut up LOL!

Me: *noms cake* It’s your book birthday and I want  details. Spill! 😀

Lea: I started reading romance at a really young age. I used to sneak my mom’s Kathleen Woodiwiss books and gorge on ‘em. I think the desire to write has always been there and I love telling stories. When I decided that the stories in my head were either going to drive me insane or dry up, I figured I better write them down. So five years ago, that’s just what I did. I had four complete novels written before I figured out I should probably try to get them out so everybody else could read them. Gotta share them, right? FYI—Retrieval was the third of those four complete books. So I went through the steps of figuring out how to do that and about a year and half ago I joined Romance Divas, an online writer’s forum. From there I entered a Mentor Program where I was paired with an author whose knowledge and experience would help me in my quest to be published. Best move I ever made, seriously. I was paired with the amazing David Bridger and we worked on my craft. I had a lot of the basics but I needed to be honed, if you will, and I had to really learn that writing is a craft. I had to learn to take pride in my work. By the time we finished the 3 month program, I had so much knowledge running through my brain I thought it would explode. But the most important thing was that Retrieval was polished up shiny and I had a crap-ton of knowledge to work on my other novels. I subbed Retrieval and eventually got a bite through a couple of publishers. I decided that Liquid Silver Books’ reputation was such that they would be the perfect place. And now, I’m here, celebrating Retrieval’s release.

I could probably go on forever, feel free to pull out the whip, lol!

Me: Licorice Whip? lol I’m so glad you pursued writing. I love Skylar and Sebastian together. You write yummy heat and romance… *daydreams*

Oh!

What’s stories are you working on now and what can we look forward to? Better say sequels…

Lea: *take a huge bite of cake and dives in for more—finally swallows, take a swig of Dr. P*

I have a lot of exciting things coming up. I’ll share here with you and you’ll be the first outside of my family and Team Awesome to hear this news, but I’ve signed contracts with LSB for a short story which will go in a Shifter Anthology that comes out in May I believe. I’ve also contracted a contemporary romance with LSB, Fistful of Roses, the first of a series and it will be out in April. Right now I’m working on getting the second GenTech book polished up to submit and I’m writing the sequel to Fistful of Roses.

I’m hoping that 2013 is the beginning of a beautiful list of books. It’s definitely started a fast clip and I’m loving every second of it.

Me: *couch Kermit flail* yay! I want the second GenTech book now. So finish it up *nudges Lea shoulder* k? and a shifter story and a kermitcontemporary romance? woohoo! 😉 I adore your dialogue and will read whatever I can get my hands on.

*licks frosting off thumb* so have you always loved romance books? What’s a favorite sci-fi movie? Do you like dinosaurs? Have you ever had blue hair? *gasps for breath and waits expectantly*

Lea: I have always loved romance. Something about that elemental pull between two people has always moved me. I told you I used to sneak my mom’s romance books and it’s the truth. I’d hide in my room for hours devouring those 400 page books and I loved it.

Let’s see, favourite sci-fi movie? Huh, I have to narrow it to one? I’m just gonna give you a list: Alien, Bladerunner, Star Wars, and most recently  Prometheus. I loved that movie, made DH buy it for me when it came out.

Dinosaurs? *looks around and shrugs* Sure, I like dinosaurs.

I’ve never had blue hair but did get all crazy and had caramel highlights once. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know—everybody should have blue hair once, but I figure I just turned 40 so chances are, blue hair ain’t too far away.

Me: *snorts Dr. Pepper* ow! Not that kinda of blue hair 😛

How could you compare writing to your teenage daughter’s closets? And how do you feel about Captain Mal?

Lea: Oh good God! You went there, didn’t you? Let’s see, both writing and my teenage daughters’ (plural) closets are hazardous places to trod. You have to be careful entering both and you have to watch out not to get tripped up, or lost. One good thing though is that they’re both full of amazing color and style—I kind like being in the midst of both.

Captain Mal is HOTNESS—I think he’s played in several of my fantasies and I should probably stop there. Suffice it to say, Firefly is one of my favorite shows and I’m still pissed it was ever cancelled.

Me: oh! oh! another reason to adore you! Firefly is one of MY favorite shows too. 😀 Fox seems to know when I love a show then they cancel it *sigh*

I just made up a word zygonbuck please make up a definition and use the word in a sentence. 😛

Lea: You’re play dirty pool, Kat! I love that about you ;D I really hope I can keep a straight face through this.

Zygonbuck—(noun), A virile, in season male, also called a man-stallion. Found solely on the planet Zygon. Larger specimens range from 1.8 meters to 2.5 meters in heights and weigh anywhere from 190 to 275 zygonweights (pounds in human terminology). Found in the wild, they are magnificent beasts, wild and untamed. They can be domesticated by the right Zygon female, however, they are considered dangerous until fully broken in. *teehee*

Use in a sentence:

Sithia turned, the misty morning fog redolent with anticipation but clearing for a brief second, allowing her a glorious full frontal view of the zygonbuck she’d been scouting for several weeks.

Dang it! Now I’ve got a plot bunny!

Me: lol A man-stallion?! I think I need a Zygonbuck. And this story. Chase the plot bunny… but only after I get another GenTech book. 😛

Summarize your book Retrieval twitter style, 140 characters or less… Go!

Lea: She’s been created to destroy. He’s been tasked to retrieve her. They’ll fight her creator & each other for a love so hot it burns. Game On!

Me: *fist bump* good job! exactly 140 characters 😀

We’re gonna play a game of Madlibs… nope, not telling what it is. You can make your answers as naughty or nice as you’d like 😀

Lea: Should I be scared?

Me: maybe a little… *mwahahah-choke* I need to practice my evil laughter.

  1. I do like science fiction romance books and movies – occasionally a straight hard core science fiction movie or book too but I have to be honest and admit that I prefer my books to have some romance. Thanks for the fun interview and giveaway
