Interview with Jillian Stone + Giveaway!

A Private Duel with Agent Gunn (The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard) by Jillian Stone I’ve been giggling like a loon while I post this interview. Jillian Stone is completely awesomesauce! She wrote me a short zombie story! lol And she brought me candy. I am so thrilled to get to know this author whose books caught my attention at the end of the summer…. Like I told her… *head/desk* They are on my TBR mountain. But now they are at the top 🙂

Sit back and we’ll share our virtual snacks and you can check out Jillian’s gorgeous book covers and stories and leave us a comment for a chance to win her brand new novella! And you can see the reading order for The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard series and catch up before the release of A Private Duel with Agent Gunn on November 27th.

Me: Hi Jillian! It’s so lovely to meet you 🙂 Come in, come in. Take a seat on my comfy virtual couch and relax. Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea? Something stronger perhaps? <g> Absinthe? Lol It’s such a pretty color…. *sigh* lime green is absolutely, positively my fav color. 🙂

Jillian: Phaeton Black, my steamy steampunk paranormal investigator, would be delighted to louche you a glass of abinsthe. The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard, on the other hand, drink single malt whiskey, but I’m thinking coffee, black for me––a dark French roast, if you have it!

Me: *hands Jillian a cup of java*

(Jill inhales coffee aroma) M-mmm perfect, thank you!

Me: Soooo, *embarrassed blush* Ummm I have to tell you something…. I actually own two of your books… in print! But they are on my to be read stack. I love, love, love! Your covers (I’m a bit of a cover whore and yours got to me) and then the synopsis. So, I own The Seduction of Phaeton Black and A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis. I know that’s the second book in your Gentleman of Scotland Yard series and I will be making additions to fix my set! <g>

Jillian: I think I should probably sort out the two different series for readers:

Me: *nods nead* yes please 😉

Put James Bond in a time machine and transport him to late Victorian London, add a good bit of Sherlock Holmes, a splash of Lord Byron and you get pretty close to The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard. Although the detectives are reality-based characters, the plot lines, sleuthing methods and gadgetry edge on steampunk.

The Phaeton Black, Paranormal Investigator series has got elements of erotic romance, paranormal thriller, Sherlock Holmes pastiche, and steampunk adventure. Do you think I write across a few subgenres? Does it sound like a wild ride? I hope so!

The Miss Education of Doctor Exeter (Summer 2013)

The first book in this series, is an RT Book Reviews Top Pick. This is what RT wrote about The Seduction of Phaeton Black:

This book almost defies categorization, combining elements of steampunk, erotica, paranormal romance, and mystery. The atmospheric Victorian London setting has a dark gothic feel with ancient gods on the loose. The writing is witty, the characters delightful, the descriptions vivid and the sex earthy and erotic.

Me: *googly eyed* Wow! See? That’s exactly what made me pick up a few of your books. Sounds Delicious!

How in the world you were able to get 4 stories released in the Gentlemen of Scotland Yard series, plus the 2 in your Paranormal Investigator world, in 2012?! *wide eyed gaze* You must write like a fiend! Lol

Jillian: Two of the books were written when I signed contracts with the publishers. An Affair with Mr. Kennedy was originally titled The Yard Man, and won the 2010 Golden Heart for Romantic Suspense, and sold to Pocket Books. That same summer, The Seduction of Phaeton Black won the Romance Through the Ages Erotica category and was offered a contract by Kensington Brava. Both offers were three book contracts, so I have spent the last year and a half writing the four full length books, plus a novella. Needless to say, I don’t get out much.

Me: <g> Well, your sacrifice is our gain 😛 I adore when books in a series come out promptly (isn’t that a fun word? 🙂 ) and as readers we can continue on the journey that the author is taking us on. What can we look forward to from you next year?

Jillian: The Miss Education of Doctor Exeter will be out in the Summer of 2013, there will also be more Gentlemen of Scotland Yard. I am also working on a dystopian erotica, which will be released in 2013.

Me: Dystopian Erotica? oooohhh!

Ok, *grabs a handful of m&ms* wann *swallows* Want some? *slides bowl nearer to Jillian* here at The Book Tart, I like to torture errr, tease an author with silly questions! Here goes…

Jillian: No thanks. I happen to have some Aussie pineapple licorice, on me––care for a stick or two?

Me: O_0 yes please! *moan* 🙂

I just made up a word Zygonnedoid please create a definition and use the word in a sentence. 😛

Jillian: Zygonnedoid: The mentally challenged cousin of Zaphod Beeblebrox, former president of the universe and a Douglas Adams character from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. A commonly used noun used to describe members of a celebrity’s entourage.

Used in a sentence: “That useless Zygonnedoid?”

Me: *manic laughter* That’s epic! I adore The Hitchhiker’s Guide!

*snicker* don’t be a zygonnedoid

What is the 22nd line on the 100 page of your first novel?

Jillian: and I witnessed the body slide out of their grasp and down

Me: Nice!

Tell me a story please… zombie hoard and discord…

JUST BREAKING YAHOO NEWS: A zombie hoard caused all sorts of discord at the press conference in the Rose Garden, today. Secret Service sharpshooters on the roof the White House took out most of the hoard with the exception of one rabid zombie who managed to bite a Drudge Report newsman. Both zombie and reporter were shot through the head outside the oval office.

Me: Bwahahaha! *gasps for breath* haha 🙂

hehe :p

How *chuckle* How… could you compare your writing process to a detectives’ investigation?

Jillian: I do a lot of research, which is a kind of discovery. I sometimes search for hours or days for just the right research, which helps me world build, so the story comes alive for the reader. I have gleaned some wonderful details and subplot ideas for characters as well. Once I begin to write a character, they gradually reveal things to me which is a mysterious process, as well.

Me: Summarize your upcoming novel A Private Duel with Agent Gunn … Go!

A Private Duel with Agent Gunn (The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard) by Jillian Stone

Jillian: Phineas Gunn is an undercover operative for two of Britain’s most sensitive intelligence organizations. The cunning agent is asked to take on an unusual burglary case. What intrigues Finn most is a woman from his past. Is she a ballerina, a jewel thief or spy?

More Jillian

Jillian Stone was born a storyteller. A skill that got her into considerable trouble as a youth until she solved the problem by becoming an advertising creative. And the career did seem to suit her as she won many national ad awards including the Clio and the New York Art Director’s Club Gold. What more could she ask for? Create her own worlds? Become goddess of her own universe? Yes! So, she began to write fiction. Her Victorian Romantic Suspense novel AN AFFAIR WITH MR. KENNEDY won the 2010 Golden Heart and sold to Pocket Books. Her sexy, supernatural Steampunk novel, THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK, won the 2010 Romance Through The Ages Erotica category and sold to Kensington Brava. Jillian lives in California and is currently working on the next adventure for both series.

  1. What a fantastic interview!! Loved this. Love your work Gillian! Hmm the song I am most likely to sing along with…since I have to pick I would say

Too Close by Alex Clare. I love that song and will sing it every time it comes on. But in all honesty I sing most songs that come on…LOL. Thanks for the contest!!!

    Ebonysbbwnikki @ yahoo. com

  2. I haven’t done karaoke in AGES. I most often sing Lion Man by Mumford & Sons in my car. If a karaoke bar had Liberty by Jordan Page I would most def sing that one.

The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard looks like something I might enjoy. I <3 Sherlock.

      1. …you may have missed the prepositional phrase “in my car” :p I don’t know that I would attempt it in any other location.

        1. hmmm you could be right and I just blocked the trauma? lol I do remember being a human dart and the attractive velcro pads 😛

          1. We attempted to sing Sisters, from White Christmas, at that traumatizing event. I’m surprised I remember this fact.

  3. I will sing along to nearly every son g – my current favorite is You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful by One Direction. I sing it to my 13 year old daughter to annoy her!

    1. nice! One Direction has some catchy songs 🙂
I sing along to most songs on the radio… Taylor Swift Never ever ever song was on and the Little Mister told me to turn it off cause it gets stuck in his head! bwahahaha

      1. Jill-

She goes around all day saying she is ugly. I sing it because she really is beautiful. I am sincere – but I still annoy her.

    1. Ooh! Yes Call Me Maybe is so catchy and fun!
Have you heard Cookie Monster sing Share it maybe? Lol <3 it!
      (((hugs))) thanks for stopping by

          1. lol It’s my fav of different versions I’ve seen 🙂 It get’s stuck in my head 😛 You’ve got cookies… so share ’em maybe!

  4. I’ll sing to almost anything I know. Problem is almost all the music I know is from before 1990 (unless it’s from a musical)!

  5. I wasn’t going to comment, because I *don’t* do karaoke, (though I sing along with the radio in the car – when I’m alone!), but I was reminded tonight that I have participated several times in group karaoke… singing Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. But you kinda haveta sing along with it, don’t you? 😉

    1. lol I don’t really karaoke either! But like you said, how can you NOT sing along to Sweet Caroline? 🙂

      (((hugs))) Kat
PS. I was late! late late! But I finally mailed out your masquerade prize book swag box on Friday! Hope you enjoy 😀

          1. queen of tarts…I’ve been singing the theme song to the 80’s TV show, Moonlighting….”Some walk by night, some fly by day…moonlighting strangers…who just met on the way…

  6. Song I am most likely to sing along with……. almost any song that I like I sing lol but I think the one I sing the most currently is Love you Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez (I have an almost teen daughter) lol

  7. What a fun interview!

My favorite song to sing is “Stayin Alive” by the BeeGees. Disco never fails to make me happy! That and imagining myself in a leisure suit.

  8. That was a funny interview. I like it when things get random. 🙂

I have so many go-to karaoke songs it’s kind of sad. Asian pop (not just Gangnam Style, mind!) and 90s teen pop usually get me going really quickly, sans alcohol even.

BTW, Jillian, you know your Inspector Bruce just makes me think of Batman? One track mind, mine is. 😀

    1. Lol glad you enjoyed. I’m mostly random cause my brain bounces around like a ping ping ball… Or like Tiger :p
Maybe Winnie the Pooh could be a karaoke song 🙂
      (((hugs))) Kat
