Today I am so thrilled to have USA Today bestselling romance author Cari Quinn sit on The Book Tart’s virtual couch for a chat! I just read her Love Required series and admit that I’m in love… I adored how she told the two stories in the series… so far. 🙂
They are sweet and sexy with a lot of heart. I am anxiously awaiting a sequel. I will post my reviews soon. 🙂
Cari is very generously offering a fun prize for a contest! I so want the owl! Check out the pic at the with the Rafflecopter. 🙂 Details at the bottom of the post.
Me:Cari, Thank you so much for stopping by The Book Tart. I’m so excited to meet you. *scoops books off couch and shoves bag of Swedish fish under a pillow* Please take a seat on my virtual couch- can I get you anything? What’s your preferred daytime beverage?
Cari: Hi there! So happy to be here! And ooh, Swedish fish? *grabby hands* Coffee please. Preferably a Pumpkin Spice latte. *looks around* Where’s a Starbucks when you need one?
Me: *hand her a latte* That’s the fun with virtual interviews :p You can have what you like *whispers* and they’re calorie free 🙂
How are you? Are you looking forward to anything in particular this fall? I love the fall! The leaves changing color, the smell of the air and the excitement of gearing up for the holidays 🙂 And college basketball is starting in a few months <g> I heard you like it a little :p
Cari: I’m great, thank you! Hope you are as well! Fall is my absolute favorite season…and yes, I’ve been known to enjoy a college basketball game or two. Aw heck, who am I kidding? I’m glued to my screen from November until April! As for what I love most about fall, I’d have to say leaves changing, Pumpkin Spice lattes (oh-my-YUM!) and Halloween, which happens to be my favorite holiday. Add in the scent of woodsmoke on the crisp air and a glowing full moon and I’m a happy girl. 🙂
Me:I was first introduced to your storytelling when I read your holiday quickie No Dress Required. I loved Noelle and Jake and their New Year’s Eve romance. *sigh* I was so happy to see them as secondary characters in the 2nd installment of your Love Required series. No Flowers Required is a full length novel- but I blazed right through it! Couldn’t put it down 🙂 It’s your fault there are dishes in my sink :p lol But seriously, your story about Alexa and Dillon grabbed me and wouldn’t let me put the book away until I followed them on their bumpy ride to romance. *absently bites the head off a Swedish fish and offers the bag to Cari* And it is bumpy! Some of it Dillon does to himself though. :p
Cari: Mmm, Swedish fish! Thanks so much…I’m so happy you enjoyed both stories! 🙂 Noelle and Jake’s story came out of nowhere for me last fall, and Alexa and Dillon’s kind of did the same thing for me this spring. Dillon did not want to reveal himself to me, and I couldn’t figure out how he and Alexa would, ahem, come together until I visited a local hardware store. Just like that, Value Hardware and Cory and Dillon sprung to life in my mind. From there it was just a matter of stepping back and watching the sparks fly. And fly they did. *shiver*
Me: mmmmm They do soar. *sigh*
Please tell me what you are working on now… I hope you have something in mind for Dillon’s brother Cory soon! *begging*
Cari: That is my absolute favorite question to be asked! Cory’s such fun to write because he’s so smart in some ways and so oblivious in others. He also doesn’t seem to understand that his way isn’t the only way. Luckily I think he’s met his match in Victoria. 😉 So to answer your question…yes! I’m working on Cory’s book right now for release later this year. 🙂
Me: I adored the character of Alexa in No Flowers Required. She’s someone I could be friends with. I loved that she was a fighter, but she’s not perfect and had self doubts and moments of despair. She’s going through a very realistic challenge for small businesses and I enjoyed the everyday drama of the story. It was very relatable. Dealing with bills and customers and phone calls and leaky faucets *daydreaming* Ok- I’m back 🙂 I liked that Dillon wasn’t trying to rescue her, that he believed in Alexa and wanted her to succeed- but he could give her a few tools to help her. It’s so not preachy! But the story seems to have an underlying message of discovering who you are and not hiding. Was that intentional? I could be reading into it!
Cari: Thank you! I enjoyed writing Alexa because she might falter, but she never gave up. She hid a lot behind her prickly shield, but given enough time, she lets people in. Dillon’s much the same in that manner, but for a different reason. Alexa’s afraid of giving too much of herself away to a man—Dillon’s afraid of giving himself to someone who won’t want the real him, beyond the trappings of wealth and status.
You’re absolutely right about the underlying message. If I had to pick one theme that runs through all my books, that would be it. I’ve always maintained that everyone has sides to their nature they don’t claim, and sometimes it takes the love of a good person—or just learning to love yourself—to bring out those hidden aspects. I’m so thrilled you picked up on that!
Me: I got a kick out of Alexa’s flower shop and seeing Dillon help when she was swamped with a rush order. Lol It’s attractive when a guy is willing to help out even if he’s not competent at something. I do NOT have a green thumb at all! *snicker* I even have those watering globes from the infomercials so I don’t have to stress about watering the two plants I have. Do you love flowers and gardening like Alexa?
Cari: LOL, watering globes? Girl, we need to chat. Those sound right up my alley!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed Alexa’s shop. I loved learning more about flowers and plants to write this book. Sadly, my personal knowledge extends to my favorite flowers, tulips. As for a green thumb? Nope. I like green growing things, just don’t leave me in charge of them. I may also be an advocate for wanting a tidy lawn at all costs, even if that means cutting the shrubbery way low. Usually I lose that argument, but I make it every year. That said, I love plants and I think specialized knowledge in any field is sexy! (like Dillon’s knowledge of green roofs…hello environmentally-minded hottie!)
Me: It’s time for The Book Tart quickie 🙂

Ok ya’ll the Rafflecopter is at the bottom of the post along with a picture of the owl candle holder some lucky winner will get from Cari. This has been so much fun!!!
Cari Quinn wrote her first story – a bible parable – in 2nd grade, much to the delight of the nuns at her Catholic school. Once she saw the warm reception that first tale garnered, she was hooked. She attempted her first romance in junior high, long before she’d ever read one. Writing what she knew always took a backseat to what she wanted to know, and that still holds true today. Cari’s genres of choice include contemporary, romantic comedy, romantic suspense, urban fantasy and paranormal. Recently she discovered erotic romance. Oh, how far she’s come.
