Oh My Goodness!
We’re having a party…
and there’s rum! and vlogs! and fun!
Today is my friend
Sidney Bristol’s book birthday!
Her first science fiction romance, A Kiss For A Cure, is out now from Lyrical Press. I can’t wait to read this book! I have been waiting and waiting and WAITING for it since I first met Sidney and heard about this story. 😉 Yes! *nods* I just downloaded it and I’ll be up late…
She has made some special vlogs for The Book Tart and I love her to pieces for this. Check out her dress and her book and excerpt and our chat about dreams…. Sidney and I are retro girls and I so want to steal her dress… not that I would. She’s my friend… But I might borrow it for an extended period of time. 😛
Also, because it’s a party, I’m giving one lucky commenter a party favor! Use the rafflecopter at the bottom of this post, wish Sidney a happy book birthday and tell us what one of your childhood dream was.
The Queen of Tarts
A Kiss For A Cure
Hello and welcome to another release day party!!
Thanks so much to the always lovely and stylish Kat, THE Book Tart herself, for hosting me. I can’t tell you how fantastic it is to have her support and that from all the readers. I could never have sold a single book without your support and readership.
Today I’m celebrating the release of my first science-fiction romance, A Kiss for a Cure. I’m super excited about this because it’s a return to the very first genre I ever wrote. When I was little all wondrous and exciting things happened in space and I wanted to go there. It wasn’t a realistic goal, but that’s what writing was for! I could pen stories about all sorts of young girls being kidnapped or going on adventures amidst the stars. It just seemed natural to return to the genre someday, and I finally have. A Kiss for a Cure touches on a lot of the themes I wrote as a kid, only in a more adult and, ah, romantic sort of way. Younger me would totally be having a cootie induced panic attack at the book I’ve written!
In the tradition of The Book Tart,
I’ve recorded a few videos to celebrate the release day!
Yes, I really did mention sharks, in space, in the blurb. I’ve lovingly called this book “Sharks in Space” since the conception of the idea behind it. I mean, I’m writing science-fiction. It’s the great unknown. So why couldn’t there be sharks, in space? And why couldn’t my heroine specialize in space shark biology? Seriously! Why not?
Sidney: Hey Kat, where’d you go?
Me: What?! *hollers from the kitchen* We need more rum! I love my strawberry daiquiris *blender noise* want some?
Sidney: Wait, why is the rum almost gone??? Pause this interview! We need more rum, stat!!!!
*insert mad dash to the store*
*resumes with daiquiri in hand*
Ah, that tastes nice. Hey, when you were a wee little tartlet, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Me: Well… I always wanted to be a princess… or a flight attendant. *sips*
Sidney: Ooooooh, I had my princess days too. I wanted to be an Indian Princess so I could ride horses, but I also wanted the long, floofy dresses. You can imagine what our horses thought of that. LOL! Now what do you think you want to be when you grow up?
Me: *singing* I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toy R Us kid, there’s a million toys at Toys R Us that I can play with…
Do I have to grow up? 😛 I mean there’s the unavoidable stuff like bills and insurance and cleaning… *looks around bemusedly* But otherwise? I still want to be a princess… or really A Queen! See? I have a crown!
Sidney: Crowns are the best. I have a whole shelf of Serious Writing Tiaras. No, really! See? We should totally make a hang-out-date one day where we wear tiaras and go to all the normal day places. I kind of like making a spectacle of myself. So when do you think we’re going to grow up, anyways? Is this an option? Can I skip out of it, because I’d kind of like to.*nods*
Me: Yes, Lets skip. Skipping is fun and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping a child like enthusiasm for life… How’s that for deep?
Sidney: I like skipping. Sometimes, I still skip. When I was a kid, I dreamt about space. What did you dream about?
Me: Well…. I am a sci-fi junkie sooo yes, space and sexy pilots… I remember watching Farscape in high school and wanting John Crichton for my own… I also was a huge Anne of Green Gables fan. Which come to think of it, prolly explains my red hair. Anyway, I loved Gilbert and I’ve dreamed about various Tall, Dark and irresistibly handsome guys forever! Ummm that’s not the kind of dreams you were thinking of is it? *chugs daiquiri*
Sidney: I could totally see you as an Anne of Green Gables type heroine. It suits you. And Gilbert was pretty cool once he got over the really stupid boy days. And honey, I wanna know all your dreams. ;D
How much do you really watch the muppets? And do you really muppet flail?
I absolutely do, do the flail *points right* see? I get so excited, I just can’t hide it *singing again*
Sidney: I’m a believer that you should reach for your dreams. It’s how my family raised me, and how I like to write my characters.
Book Birthday Guest of HONOR… or the present 😛
