How Not to Run for President by Catherine Clark
Release date: Jan. 10, 2012 |  Publisher: EgmontUSA |  Genre: General Fiction
ISBN: 1606841017 | ISBN-13: 9781606841013 | Format: Hardcover
Humorous dialogue, smart pacing and some dirty politics make for an engaging read.
With an election around the corner, this isn’t a bad way for young readers to view the political arena."—Kirkus Reviews

When the middle school band is called to play for a presidential campaign rally, Aidan is right there with his clarinet, just in time to save the candidate’s life. Interviewed by the media, he speaks up in favor of the need to save jobs—like his mom’s, for instance.  Even though he’s in the middle of Little League season, for pete’s sake, the candidate convinces him to join her tour of the midwest.

Problem 1: The candidate’s daughter HATES Aidan. Problem 2: What do you do when your whole life has been turned upside down and you can’t get away from the media? Problem 3: What’s a red-blooded American boy to do when he’s asked to play the clarinet on national TV and the local bully back home is giving interviews saying Aidan’s the nerd of the century?

Popular Clone: The Clone Chronicles #1 by M.E. Castle
Release date: Jan. 24, 2012 |  Publisher: EgmontUSA |  Genre: General Fiction
M.E. Castle (Author)
ISBN: 1606842323 | ISBN-13: 9781606842324 | Format: Hardcover
Castle’s debut, the first in a planned series, strikes just the right balance of humor and action and is sure to keep young readers turning the pages. Fisher’s struggles to fit in, to relate to girls and to uncover and preserve his true self feel genuine, making him a misfit and unlikely hero worth rooting for."—Kirkus Reviews

Meet Fisher Bas: 12 years-old, growth-stunted, a geeky science genius, and son of the Nobel Prize-winning creators of the Bas-Hermaphrodite-Sea-Slug-Hypothesis. No surprise: Fisher isn't exactly the most popular kid in his middle-school, tormented daily by the beefy, overgrown goons he calls The Vikings. But he senses relief when he comes upon the idea of cloning himself--creating a second Fisher to go to school each day while he stays at home playing video games and eating cheetos with ketchup. It's an ingenious plan that works brilliantly, until Fisher's clone turns out to be more popular than him--and soon after gets clone-napped by the evil scientist Dr. Xander.

The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison
Release date: Feb. 14, 2012 |  Publisher: EgmontUSA |  Genre: Mystery
Kate Ellison (Author)
ISBN: 1606842633 | ISBN-13: 9781606842638 | Format: Hardcover
“Fascinating. Ellison has the art of page-turning down flat, and readers will be swept up by both the terror—and the romance.”
Booklist, Starred Review

“This book casts a spell over its readers.”—SLJ, Starred Review

“An engaging mystery starring a teen girl with obsessive-compulsive disorder. A pleasing mix of realism, tension, intrigue and romance.”
Kirkus Reviews

“ . . . a strong, twisty thriller of a debut . . . [with] a complex and memorable heroine.”—Publishers Weekly

“Lo’s relationship with the mysterious street boy who calls himself Flynt, layered on top of her almost supernatural loneliness and helpless compulsions, gives the novel an otherworldly quality.”—VOYA

“A debut worth picking up. Stark and realistic.”—RTBooks

Penelope (Lo) Marin has always loved to collect beautiful things. Her dad's consulting job means she's grown up moving from one rundown city to the next, and she's learned to cope by collecting (sometimes even stealing) quirky trinkets and souvenirs in each new place--possessions that allow her to feel at least some semblance of home.

But in the year since her brother Oren's death, Lo's hoarding has blossomed into a full-blown, potentially dangerous obsession. She discovers a beautiful, antique butterfly pendant during a routine scour at a weekend flea market, and recognizes it as having been stolen from the home of a recently murdered girl known only as "Sapphire"--a girl just a few years older than Lo. As usual when Lo begins to obsess over something, she can't get the murder out of her mind.

As she attempts to piece together the mysterious "butterfly clues," with the unlikely help of a street artist named Flynt, Lo quickly finds herself caught up in a seedy, violent underworld much closer to home than she ever imagined--a world, she'll ultimately discover, that could hold the key to her brother's tragic death.

Goofballs #1: The Crazy Case of Missing Thunder by Tony Abbott
Release date: Feb. 28, 2012 |  Publisher: EgmontUSA |  Genre: General Fiction
Tony Abbott (Author)
ISBN: 1606843400 | ISBN-13: 9781606843406 | Format: Paperback
“Everyone wants to be a Goofball in this little town, and readers will want to follow their cases in the future. That #1 on the spine ensures that there will be many more adventures from these goofy friends.” —Kirkus Reviews

“Targeting readers who like a lot of humor with their mysteries, Abbott includes a great deal of wordplay and slapstick, and stretches the goofball joke to its limit (Jeff’s dog even barks, “Goof! Goof!”). Madden’s cartoons add to the fun, and Abbott’s clipped, dialogue-driven text is accessible for beginning readers and creates just the hint of a noir atmosphere.” —Publishers Weekly

“The plot moves along quickly from clue to clue, enabling readers to test their own powers of deduction. . . . Bold black, white, and gray illustrations appear on almost every spread. Illustrations also suggest the multiracial make-up of the Goofballs. The humor consists of mostly pratfalls (tumbling into doorways, getting stuck in a chair) and puns (“don’t leaf me here”), but early chapter book readers will enjoy this combination of mystery and silliness.”—School Library Journal

Jeff, Brian, Mara, and Kelly are self-proclaimed goofballs. Since first grade these friends have been solving mysteries among their schoolmates etc and now their reputation is expanding. When rich kid Randall Crandall's horse, Thunder, goes missing, he calls upon the Goofballs to find him. Clues, clatter, and catastrophe almost ensue until the Goofballs recover Thunder, the flower-loving horse.
