Professor George Bradley, computer staff in hand, “envisions” an archaeological site, which could turn history on its head. Then he falls through a ripple in reality. He enters a world where: trolls think they are human; elves believe humans can’t do magic since they don’t have souls; a child of prophecy is dying of a curse; a shape-changer is bent on killing him; a seeress keeps too many secrets; and an ogre and a boy struggle to defend a keep against the evil ruling it. This is a world where a starship crash landed, bringing about a war, which led to the laws of magic defeating those of science. Here a demon rages, intent on destroying all life, its minions intent on killing the human mage from another world. If that wasn’t bad enough, George’s computer is now rather sarcastic.

The Index Killer by A.R. Alan

A.R. Alan (Author)

The victims of a brutal, tortured serial killer are piling up in the affluent town of Boca Raton, Florida. Residents are terrified. Police are mystified. Why is this deranged person singling out petite, young blondes? Why are their index fingers cut off as trophies after they've been raped and strangled? Leading the investigation is Homicide Detective Catherine Delaney and her sexy partner Cody O'Dell. Raped as a teenager, Catherine is desperate to catch this killer before another young woman is murdered. Adding to her frustration is Cody's chauvinist attitude towards women in law enforcement, as well as her undeniable attraction to that maddening man. The Index Killer moves at breakneck speed, with thrilling intrigue and romantic tension that'll keep you fascinated and guessing. About the author: Barbara Bixon (writing as A.R. Alan) is a born storyteller. Even in first grade, she became notorious for scribbling stories on scraps of paper. When she wasn't doing that, she'd have her nose buried in a book, soaking up other peoples' stories. Reading and writing novels became lifelong passions, and she's currently finishing her eleventh novel. Worldwide travel and a career that brought her into contact with a never-ending stream of interesting personalities and celebrities fanned her already fertile imagination over the years and validate the vivid, often zany characters that people her novels. Barbara is also an avid environmentalist and played a major role in saving a New Jersey/New York mountain range from developers. It will remain open space forever. Previously writing under the name of B.B. Carter and currently as A.R. Alan, she has had many short stories, poems and novels published. She's also sold comedic material to Joan Rivers. Screenplays available for: The House of Cupcakes, The CB (Chocolate Brown) Social Club, and Do I Flaunt My Fat, or Jump Off a Bridge? Barbara would love to hear from her readers. Even the most pious Jew need not shed so many tears over the destruction of Jerusalem as the women were in the habit of shedding when Stempenyu was playing.

The first work of Sholom Aleichem’s to be translated into English—this long out-of-print translation is the only one ever done under Aleichem’s personal supervision—Stempenyu is a prime example of the author’ s hallmark traits: his antic and often sardonic sense of humor, his whip-smart dialogue, his workaday mysticism, and his historic documentation of shtetl life.

Held recently by scholars to be the story that inspired Marc Chagall’s “Fiddler on the Roof” painting (which in turn inspired the play that was subsequently based on Aleichem’s Tevye stories, not this novella), Stempenyu is the hysterical story of a young village girl who falls for a wildly popular klezmer fiddler—a character based upon an actual Yiddish musician whose fame set off a kind of pop hysteria in the shtetl. Thus the story, in this contemporaneous “authorized” translation, is a wonderful introduction to Aleichem’s work as he wanted it read, not to mention to the unique palaver of a nineteenth-century Yiddish rock star.

Spellfire: A Novel of the Nightkeepers by Jessica Andersen
Release date: Nov. 6, 2012 |  Publisher: Signet |  Genre: Romance
ISBN: 0451238486 | ISBN-13: 9780451238481 | Format: Mass Market Paperback
Imprisoned and tortured by the demoness who tricked him into betraying the Nightkeepers and the woman he loves, Rabbit must endure excruciating pain to protect the diminished Skywatch army as the end-time approaches. Although an ancient prophecy says his unique powers are key to winning the final battle in the doomsday war, he hasn’t just lost his credibility—he’s lost his magic.

Myrinne is far from the woman Rabbit once knew—she’s got magic now, and despite emotional scars, she’s strong enough to help the Nightkeepers. And yet she’s not prepared to handle the fiercely driven man he’s become or the new, dangerous feelings that spark between them.

With the barrier ready to fall and a xombi outbreak in the human world, Rabbit and Myrinne must forge a new partnership amid dangerous instability and the threat of an undead army. In the end, it will be up to Rabbit to master his ferocious magic—or all will be lost. For him, for the woman he doesn’t have the right to love anymore, and for the fate of the world…
