My Saving The Book Tart event is wrapping up this weekend but I’ll never forget all the support and encouragement I’ve received from the book community. My ceiling has been replaced and my wood floors will be fixed, my damaged personal belongings (including only a few books) will be taken care of by the insurance company (hopefully!)… But through all this nightmare craziness I’ve been blown away by everyone’s kindness. 🙂
Today I’m sharing a beautifully, wonderfully nice guest post from Karen Booth. I adore this girl! Click HERE for my review of Bring Me Back (one of my top favs of last year). I love her storytelling and am ecstatic that she is helping me wrap up this drama filled chapter in my life. I’m looking forward to the next adventure… with no collapsed ceilings in it hopefully!
Oh! Karen is such a darling! She’s added 5 ecopies of the Love Finds A Way box set! Make Sure you enter for a chance to win a $40 gift card or one of the 16 ebooks up for grabs. 😀

“Appreciative” doesn’t being to describe how thankful I am to have had genuine, unwavering support from Kat over the few years I have known her. When Kat loves one of your books, she really loves them and isn’t afraid to tell the entire world. I consider myself a very lucky woman and author when that happens. Even better, she writes the most beautiful book quotes ever—sheer poetry. (Note to Kat: possible side job? Blurb writing?)
When I first heard about Kat’s disaster with her new home, my heart sank. The mess, the stress, and unease were unfortunately familiar. We had a similar situation six summers ago when lightning caused a house fire. Whenever you have a life event like that, everything becomes defined by it. Every event is marked by “before the fire/flood/ceiling caving in” and “after…” The severity of the loss doesn’t really matter (as long as we’re only talking about material losses). When your home is no longer what it used to be, your entire life is turned upside down.
So I sent Kat an email and asked how I could help. Being selfless and amazing and awesome, she asked me to share an excerpt, I suppose under the guise of helping her with some content. It still seems like I’m getting the better end of the deal, especially when I have a new book out, but here goes. ‘Forever Now’ tells the story of Sabrina, a cosmetics entrepreneur whose has seen her life turned upside down by the loss of her husband. It’s been two years and she’s still coming to terms with it. At thirty-one, she has her whole life ahead of her, but she’s haunted by how difficult it was to say goodbye to the life and the man she thought she’d have forever. As a result, her past is stuck to her present. Can she set it aside and make a future with Michael, the Wall St. playboy who has decided he’s finally ready for his own forever?
The short excerpt I’m sharing is from Chapter One. This is the first big social event Sabrina has attended since her husband died—a cocktail party at the penthouse in her Manhattan apartment building. The hostess, her neighbor Nora, has attempted to introduce her to a few single men at the party—one in a suit too big, the other with a blaring orange spray tan. Sabrina’s able to get out of it when Nora must tend to other guests, but that also means Sabrina must fend for herself. Her biggest hope is to talk to someone who doesn’t know about her past. She’s spent two years being sad and is desperate to spend at least a little time talking about something happy and fun. Luckily, she runs into Michael, who is new in the building and has no idea about her history.
Forever Now Excerpt
Here I go. Mingling. By myself. Sabrina finished the last of her champagne and bee-lined to the bar in the corner. “Gin and tonic, please.”
The bartender went to work while Sabrina perused the room. Hopefully Nora wouldn’t be gone long. Otherwise there’d be no telling how long Sabrina would last, alone and sorely out of practice in the art of working the room.
A high-pitched titter rang out, piercing the dull roar of party noise. Sabrina quickly spotted its origin, a petite blonde, as well as the man who had apparently elicited it—Michael Hayden, Sabrina’s regular morning elevator companion.
Michael caught Sabrina looking and bugged his eyes at her. She shied away and tried not to smile, but it was pointless. His ability to make her laugh was his superpower. He managed to do it even when he wasn’t trying to be funny and was instead brandishing his super-smooth brand of flirtation and not-so-subtle innuendo.
The bartender tapped Sabrina’s shoulder. She took her drink, dropped a tip into a crystal vase and returned her sights to Michael, whose eyes kept darting to hers.
He mouthed something to Sabrina as his female companion turned away and took a canapé from a waiter.
Sabrina squinted. “What?” she mouthed back.
“Save. Me,” said his lips. He punctuated it with a flick of his eyebrows.
She swirled the ice in her glass with the cocktail stirrer, concocting a plan. Hanging out with Michael would certainly be more fun than time with Mr. Giant Suit or Mr. Spray Tan. From a purely practical standpoint, she was fairly certain he knew nothing about her past. He’d never once brought it up during their chats on the elevator. Now to get him away from this other woman.
Sabrina marched over to Michael and tapped him brusquely on the shoulder. “You and I have some talking to do, Mr. Hayden. I know you’re stealing my Sunday New York Times.Mrs. Jackson saw you do it.” She glanced over at Michael’s conversation partner. “Do you realize you’re talking to the most notorious thief in our building?”
“I thought you were a stock broker,” the woman answered, with a squeak.
Michael loosened his steely blue tie, which went perfectly with his slim-cut gray suit. “I really prefer to call myself a borrower and it’s just a hobby. Newspapers. Cars. Girlfriends.”
“Excuse me?” The blonde stared at Michael, but all he did was shrug. “I don’t really have time for this. I was told there were going to be nice guys with money at this party.” She wandered away, only to be flagged down by Mr. Spray Tan seconds later.
Michael grinned at Sabrina with appreciation. “I don’t know what your problem is. I folded your newspaper back up and returned it to your door when I was done.”
Clever bastard.“After you’d already messed it up. What kind of person attempts to do the Sunday crossword in pen?”
“Someone with supreme confidence in his ability to rock the crossword.” He took a swig of his drink. “Thank you for saving me, by the way. I swear I attract the ditzy ones like crazy.”
“You’re lucky there was a smart one around to rescue you.” Sabrina enjoyed a sip of her own cocktail, relishing a wave of genuine comfort. It’d been a long time since she’d felt at ease in a social setting. This was a new first and it felt good.“Perhaps you shouldn’t make your initial appraisal of a woman by checking out how she fills out a dress.”
He raised a finger. “Ah, but if I didn’t, you and I might never have become friends.”
