Queen of Tarts Review of
Things Good Girls Don’t Do
by Codi Gary
Oh! I love Codi Gary’s writing! I love the snark, sass, sweet and steamy storytelling in Things Good Girls Don’t Do. I could relate to the characters in the town of Rock Canyon and felt like I would fit in with the heroine Katie and her circle of friends… I want a Chase for my own too. 😉
Katie has a reputation for being a Good Girl. But biting her tongue and seeing the best in everyone got her a cheating ex and broken heart…
She’s drowning her mopes in mojitos at the local bar after receiving an invitation to her former boyfriend’s wedding. (Grrr-argh!) She is munching on chili cheese fries and ends up writing a To Do list of things she’d been told Not To Do… Things like highlighting her hair funky colors (Yes! do it) and well… more fun things. 😉 Read the book!
As Katie tries to balance what naughty and nice looks like for her she also gets to explore a mutual attraction with the delicious “bad boy” in town. I LOVE Chase! He’s smart, sexy, a small business owner and artist (with his tattoo parlor). He’s also dealing with his own baggage and feelings of insecurity and unworthiness.
Watching Katie and Chase work on getting to know each other and on her to do list was so much fun. I liked getting into their heads and hearts and seeing the relationship become deeper than they expected.
Yes, there was lots of flirty-ness and smexy deliciousness but it was deeper than that. These characters are well rounded and grounded in real life situations. I could empathize with where they were coming from and recognized myself in some of their responses.
A few of my fav lines…
♥ Who did he think he was, Iron Man? That he could just ooze charm and she would fawn all over him because he was handsome, successful, and single?
♥ “You just spent two hours telling me how you were sick of people treating you like a doormat. Think of this as your coming out party. A party to celebrate the new, take-no-crap Katie.” Becca did a little dance behind the register.
♥ … When had his feelings for Katie started to change from mild curiosity and lust to this feeling of… completeness?
I can’t say it enough how much fun I had with this story! I adore Katie and Chase and want to move to Rock Canyon. If you are in the mood for a contemporary romance with snarky dialogue, sweet heat and strong characters, then start Things Good Girls Don’t Do right now. Do it! 😀
