Me: Congratulations on your latest Smutketeers project hon. Your Midnight Ink anthology is delicious… and you invited some friends to join the fun too. How did the project come about and how fast did ya’ll pull it together in all it’s yummy, smutakular glory? 😉

Robin: Thank you again. 🙂 Midnight Ink was an incredible experience and I think we all enjoyed every minute of it. Not SoMidnight Ink Boxed Set Over Eli is one of the few books I’ve written that emerged from my fingertips almost effortlessly—no screaming, sobbing or hair-tearing involved. Truthfully, I spent a lot more time on research than I did on actual writing. New Orleans was a fascinating subject, and teasing out my Cajun hero was a challenge I genuinely enjoyed. Even before I started writing, all the authors were so enthusiastic, it was impossible not to get sucked into the world of Midnight Ink and stay there until the story was done.

And when I got to read all the rest of the stories? Wow! It was so cool to see how all them flowed together and how all the characters from the books interacted—and yet each story is so uniquely its own. I’m still shaking my head with amazement. Of course, I got to spend a little more time with RG and Eden’s characters in To the Bone and Dangerously Inked, and I love the intimate friendship between their heroines and how protective Rosie is of Etta. But I love even more how incredibly yummy their heroes are in their own ways—Christie is such a romantic music man, it makes me sigh with longing, and the oh-so-dominant Finn makes me shiver with…well, never mind about that. 😉

As to how MI came about, I have to be perfectly honest and say it was ALL Eden and RG’s doing.  (I didn’t even think of my own title—that was RG’s idea.) I’m not a visionary, so I pretty much just sit here and blink while they dream up all kinds of ambitious ideas. And this idea I really blinked at—I’m the only Smutketeer who’s never been to New Orleans (but I’ll fix that next spring when we all attend the RT Booklovers Convention!) and I’m also the only one who’s never had a tattoo (I’ll fix that, also).  But Eden and RG were wild with excitement about it, and those girls are ALWAYS right, so I jumped right in with them.  The whole thing came together in just a couple of months, which still blows my mind.  But it just goes to show that when your muse hands you a great idea, you need to pick it up and run with it. 😀

Madlibs “Isn’t He Romantic?”

You’re out having dinner with your girlfriends. They are complaining that their men sit in front of the DOM watching ESPN, eating BALOONS, and totally ignoring them. As they finish their SLOW list of heartaches, their eyes turn to you. But what can you say? Your guy is EVIL. He gives you a MISSION and says ” BEHAVE you” every day. He never forgets your special PADDLES. He surprises you once a year with a SEXY vacation to a SCRATCHY place. And everyone knows he proposed to you while sitting in a VILLAGE, gliding down a BANANA in Venice, Italy, while the gondolier sang a LONELY love song. As you recall this EAGER moment, you can’t help but break into a DESPERATE smile and offer to pick up the tab…

Me: Love! Love! Behave you! and never forgets your special paddles. <g> Nice!

Robin L. RothamMore Robin

When I complained of being bored the summer before 7th grade, my mother (who worked at a boookstore at the time) handed me a stripped copy of Victoria Holt’s The Shivering Sands–and I was hooked. I became a voracious reader, bringing home stacks of romantic novels from the library every few days.

At 14, I tried to write my first two romances. The first was about a federal agent masquerading as a bank robber, and a smart-mouthed customer who drove a custom baby blue Trans Am named Shark. He stole Shark as his getaway vehicle and she dove in beside him. That was as far as I got–I could never see beyond their flying down the highway bickering as they were chased by bad guys.

The second was a hot mess of a Gothic paranormal erotic involving an 18yo governess and the 16yo eldest son of the house, who made quite innappropriate advances toward her via astral projection while she slept. I wrote 100 pages front and back IN PENCIL before I hit the I HATE point and shoved it under my bed. When I retrieved it 2 years later, the lead was so smeared I couldn’t read it. The End.

It took finding my own hero to reignite my passion for romance writing. More than 25 years later, I bought a used laptop on eBay and wrote my first erotic romance. My latest release, Carnal Compromise, spent 10 days at #1 on Samhain’s bestseller list.

Mr Robin and I have been married for 15 years; we live on a farm and have three wonderful kids. I love to hear from readers, so don’t be timid about saying hi!
