Karen: I’ve had a very hectic week so all I’ve done so far to celebrate is buy a YooHoo on the way home from errands yesterday! I’m going to go out for a nice relaxing dinner this weekend though—I’m not only celebrating my book birthday, I’m celebrating the fact that the book hit the best seller list at Samhain!

Me: Nice! and congratulations on the best seller list hon. It’s definitely a hit book for me too. 😀

Karen: I’m really glad you have a crush on Parker. I had so much fun writing him. He’s adorable.

Me: Oh he so is! *swipes frosting off chocolate cake* I adore  😀 Parker and Sophie’s romance. I was just talking with a friend about how much I love second chance romances. I really appreciate the fact that Parker and Sophie have a history of friendship together and then….! Mmmmm 😉

“When love throws you a curve, swing for the fences. “

Parker Wood’s dreams of becoming a professional baseball player are shattered when he’s injured in a devastating car crash. After two years in hospitals and physical rehab facilities, he’s ready to move back to his childhood home and take over the family landscaping company. The house and business are his, now that his father has passed.

Sophie Vaughn has suffered through a hellishly public divorce from a husband who couldn’t manage to stay faithful for two months of marriage. Determined not to let her personal drama impact her successful wedding and party planning business, she buys her parents’ old house, hoping the comfort of familiar surroundings will help her heal.

When Parker and Sophie discover they’re neighbors once again, it’s as if time has stood still. Their friendship is quickly rekindled, along with the decade-long crush neither of them ever admitted having. Then the heat between them exposes a long-held secret that threatens to tear them apart…unless they can detach from their painful pasts and move forward-together.

Warning: Contains sultry summer nights, steamy pool-side encounters, and you’ll never look at a jar of peanut butter the same way again.

Me: Oh! Oh! Are you ready for the holidays at all? (please say no, please say no) Have you started/finished  your shopping? Do you send cards? Make cookies? Visit Santa? *gasps for breath* Do you have time to help me?!  <g>

Karen: I am not at all ready for the holidays. All I’ve done so far is book a hotel for when we visit relatives for Thanksgiving. I’m hoping to start my Christmas shopping next week but I’ve had a hard time making it up to bed lately let alone getting out to run all my errands—I seem to be glued to my computer doing work-stuff all the time.

I decorate a bit for Christmas. I’m a big fan of lights and I like to make sure the house looks completely transformed. It’s the only holiday I really decorate for so I try to do it up well. I put my decorations up before we leave for the Thanksgiving weekend, that way when we come back to the house after Thanksgiving, it’s all ready to go for Christmas.

I do a LOT of holiday baking. Mostly cookies but some cakes and homemade chocolates too. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I like to share.  I don’t have time to help you, but if you stop by I’ll definitely give you cookies!

Me: Phew! I’m so glad you are not ready either! lol And you make cookies too? I definitely wish I lived nearby! 😉

*slides cake nearer to Karen*Don’t leave me alone with the rest of this cake… eat!

What are you working on now? Something soon or do we have to wait a smidge? Lol I know, I know, You can’t write constantly as much as we’d like! 😛

Karen: My next scheduled release is a contemporary romance due out from Samhain in August. In the meantime I’m working on several projects including a novella and a series—all  sexy contemporary romances. I’ll let you know as soon as I have news on them. Oh, and there’s a possibility of a companion novel to Leave The Lights On…I’ll be sure to let you know if that happens! I will also have the paperback release of Then, Again in May. I can’t wait to see that book in print and I’ll be signing copies of it at the RT convention in NOLA.

Me: A companion novel to Leave The Lights On? *squee!* Joey maybe?! 🙂

And I am so trying to get NOLA. Then I’ll find you and get your autograph!

Before I let you get back to writing and holiday prep….we need to play. Last time you had a quickie with me 😉 My quickie 10! This time…. I wanna play another game….

Make the words as naughty or nice as you like…..

Me:*Rubs hands together* mwahahah 😛 Here’s your madlibs…. 😀

Madlibs Dream Date

In a perfect KEY, your DELICATE dates would always go a little something like this:

You slip into an outfit that makes you look like 27 bucks. Then, a DATE arrives, whisking you to an open-air restaurant atop a high-rise CHOCOLATE. A secluded corner holds a TABLE for two, accented with glowing BOOKS (!) and a single, red NECKLACE. HOLOGRAMS twinkle brightly in the sky, and from below you can hear the sound of horns SPIRALING VIGOROUSLY, your date appears. “I’ve waited a whole SPOON for you,” he whispers. “You had me at KERFUFFLE,” you say. You share a passionate TOOTHBRUSH, and time seems to stop. Finally after a meal of raw CENTIMETERS and GLOVES soup, it is time to part. “I must go,” you say, blowing him a BREADBOX, “but we’ll always have the ATTIC.”

Me: *suspicious look* the first half of this madlibs kinda works… can you read minds?! 😛

I’d so go to a high-rise chocolate with a table for two and glowing books!!! and a red necklace! *snork* and then the date goes MAD! I’m trying to picture a passionate toothbrush…. and how to blow a breadbox. *chokes*

Awww thank you hon for playing with me here at The Book Tart! We need to make sure it’s not another year before you come hang with me again!

Karen: Thanks for having me…and thanks for the cake. 🙂

Me: (((smishes))) Kat

More Karen

Karen Stivali is a prolific writer, compulsive baker and chocoholic with a penchant for books, movies and fictional British men. When she’s not writing, she can be found cooking extravagant meals and serving them to family and friends, who never seem to mind the excessive quantities she tends to prepare. She attributes her ability to multitask to the fact that she rarely sleeps, which gives her more hours every day. Prior to deciding to write full time Karen worked as a hand drawn animator, a clinical therapist, and held various food-related jobs ranging from waitress to specialty cake maker. Planning elaborate parties and fundraisers takes up what’s left of her time and sanity.

Karen has always been fascinated by the way people relate to one another so she favors books and movies that feature richly detailed characters and their relationships. In her own writing she likes to explore the dynamics between characters and has a tendency to craft romantic love stories filled with sarcasm and sexy details.

  1. My dream date would whisk me away to Paris in his own plane. Have a romantic dinner overlooking the skyline and then take a romantic walk down the Champs-Élysées. We spend a night in a 5 star hotel and then fly back home the next day.
