Me: Aven hon! You’re here! Welcome to Tartlandia! Come on in… let me have your coat. It’s cold here. We’ve been getting snow. Meep! I’m not a fan. Are you? Oh! Do you want a drink? Hot chocolate, coffee, cider…
Aven: I will take a coffee, l please. With loads of flavored creamer. I am a flavored creamer slut.
Me: ha! I’m a caffeine slut myself. 🙂 *passes Aven her drink and pulls the cupcakes closer* So how’s your fall going? You had your first book birthday! Congratulations on the release of Connectivity! *clinks mugs* I hope you celebrated with a new…. Pair of shoes or a new purse would be my suggestions… or books! 🙂
Aven: Thank you, Kat! I actually celebrated with a nice glass of red wine and friends. And some new make-up. I love make-up! And a girl can never have enough, can she?
Me: Nice! and *nods emphatically* There is always room for more makeup. 😉
Tell me about Connectivity, Mary-Kate (I love that her name IS from the Olson twins!) and your love of British men.
Aven: Connectivity came to me after taking a six year break from writing to have a child. I wasn’t sure I would ever write again, to be honest. But while watching TV one night I was inspired to create William. Then it was like my writer brain had been flipped on again. I began sketching him, and I suddenly knew the kind of book I wanted to write–the story of a young woman trying to navigate her career, discover her dreams, and if she could find a way to let love into her life when she thought it would distract her from her goals. And I could see MK clearly–the red hair, the intelligent mind, her passionate nature–but I couldn’t figure out her name. Then one night I was flipping channels and stumbled on a Full House episode. The second I saw it, I knew her name would be Mary-Kate and she would try to hide the fact she was named after an actress on the sitcom.
Me: awwww 🙂 Love that! And I love that you had to stop and watch a bit of Full House too. I do that when I’m channel surfing too.
I’m with you on Benedict Cumberbatch I lost some time looking at your Pinterest boards… Thank you… I think. 😛 And Connectivity’s hero, William. *swoon* Details woman! Can you remember your first British crush and how did William jump into your imagination? *licks chocolate frosting off finger and looks expectantly at Aven*
Aven: Hmmm first British crush…Henry Cavill in The Tudors. Since you have been on my Pinterest boards you know I still love him (insert big swoony sigh here.) William actually came to me while watching Benedict in Sherlock. I was staring at his wavy hair and all of the sudden I had an idea for a British hero with wavy hair. And that was the starting point for William Cumberland. And even though William is a badass mogul, I was determined that he was not going to be a tortured soul. William is a good man, with his own reasons for protecting himself from love–until he lets his guard down for the right woman. And that woman, of course, is MK.
Me: *daydreamy sigh*
Oh! What are you working on now and what’s your favorite Halloween candy?
Aven: Right now I am working on a companion book to my fall New Adult release, Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista. This WIP follows one of Avery’s friends (Avery is the heroine in Fashionista) and her life adjustment after college.
My favorite Halloween candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. LOVE.
Me: Good job with my run on sentence! 😀 and yum! both for your new WIP and your fav candy.
Hmmmm I think I need to go to the candy aisle of the store…. Well. Right now, it’s practically the entire front of my grocery! But before I do, let’s get serious…. Not!
Me: Awww, You are a darling! Thank you for hanging out with me at The Book Tart! I am looking forward to many more book birthdays from you.
Aven: Thank you, Kat, for having me. You are a delight, my dear!
((((Hugs Kat back)))) Aven
