The Queen of Tarts

PS. I’ll post my review soon. Promise!

Me: Christy! Come on in. Welcome to The Book Tart. Sit. Sit! Get comfy. Can I get you something? Water? Tea? Coffee? Soda…. A black Russian? *whispers* my new fav grown up beverage. 😀

Christy: Hi Kat! Normally I’d say English Breakfast tea, but now you’ve put the idea of a Black Russian into my impressionable head I’m going to go with that. Yummy!

Me: *clinks drinks and collapses on couch* How are you hon? Busy beginning of the year huh? Holiday With A Stranger is out now! March 1st ! Congratulations! Cupcake? And how are you managing the book blitzy madness? 🙂

Christy: I’ve very well on the whole, thanks. Crazy-busy beginning to the year, but it’s all good. I’m ridiculously excited about the release of Holiday with a Stranger, and it’s been a whirl of book blitzy madness. Totally bonkers. Good bonkers though. It’s really fun to connect with book lovers and visit fabulous blogs like this one. Especially when there are Black Russian’s and cupcakes on offer *stares hard at cupcakes and tries not to drool*

Me: *passes the cupcakes and licks frosting off thumb* I thoroughly enjoyed Holiday With A Stranger. I loved the differences between Josie and Connor… and how their strengths and foibles were balanced in each other…. Also? The Chemistry? *fans self* Yum! 😉

Christy: *Grins and grows pink of cheek in manner of blushing heroine* I’m so pleased you liked it. I adored writing it and totally fell for my characters, so I love it when other people tell me they enjoyed reading about them. The chemistry is such an important (and difficult) thing to get right in these types of stories, but I knew from the off that these two had something special going on. As you say, their different outlooks are what make them so perfect for each other. They force each other to see things in a totally different way, which eventually makes them re-evaluate what they’re doing with their lives. It’s all good.

Me: Can you share a bit about writing Josie and Conner and if you’ve ever made friends with a stranger on vacation and have you been to the French country side and do you like green eggs and ham?! *gasps for breath*

Christy: Um* tries to remember all the questions in order*I’d love to; not a sexy one like Connor; yes a few times and it’s absolutely beautiful and I want to be there right now; and I don’t know, never tried green eggs. Always up for trying something new though.

Me: I’ve never tried green eggs either and I’d be your traveling buddy to France. 😉 Also you rock with the run on questions! 😉

*Takes a sip of Black Russian* Back to your first question, it took me a while to get HWAS to the point where I was happy to send it out on submission. I’ve always loved writing, but I’ve been somewhat slowed down by having and raising three children. They need so much attention the little buggers darlings 😀 I ended up writing it in a piecemeal type of way, grabbing time when I could, usually when my kids slept or late at night when the house was quiet. I tend towards writing pretty hot sex scenes, which can be tricky to focus on when small people are asking for biscuits, drinks, attention, all the time! I have more of a routine for writing now that child 3 is at preschool though. Mercifully.

Me: Ha! I’m picturing you trying to write your yummy smexy scenes with kiddos asking for snacks. 😀 Well… however you managed it the the story is officially done and ready for reading and grown up snacks!

After three months traveling all Connor Preston wants to do is sink into his own bed. The last thing he expects is to find a stark-naked woman already there…

Josie Marchpane wasn’t anticipating company either. Connor might be six foot four inches of pure muscle, and boast a disturbingly sexy smile, but a fortnight in the South of France is the one thing standing between Josie and her sanity – and she’s not about to give it up without a fight!

Josie plays to win. The problem…? Connor does too. And, with only one bed between them, things are about to get interesting…

Me: Ok hon. Let’s see how you do with super silly questions… *drumroll*

How could you compare your writing process to changing a diaper/nappie? (yep. I went there)

Christy: It can be a stinky old business. After summoning the energy to deal with a massive great word-dump, I take a deep breath, tentatively peek at the business in hand, then hold my nose and dive right in. It’s best not to think too hard about it I find, or you lose your nerve.

Me:*chokes on drink* massive word dump?! *gasps for breath* perfect!

I just made up a word wullory please make up a definition and use the word in a sentence. 😛

A small, furry butt-warmer, usually made from man-made fibres.

She never went anywhere without her wullory—the last thing she needed was to turn up with her butt as cold as a block of ice.

Me: *giggles* I want a Wullory! I loath the cold 😉

I’ve put together a sequence of words beginning with E . Would you rather be thought of as,  Esoteric, Elegant, Educated, Erudite (I had to look that up!) Exemplary, Elegant, Enthusiastic or Earnest? You can only pick one and explain your answer (silly I know, but more fun for me :P)

Christy: Then I choose Elegant. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who look effortlessly put-together, instead of like I’ve just been through the wash on a high spin cycle then left to dry upside down.

Me: *snork* You are a darling dear for playing with me. *bounces on couch* What are you working on next so I can have another playdate with you?

Christy: It’s been a blast! Thanks so much for the scrummy goodies and your marvelous company. I’ll be back bothering people in May when my second KISS story is out. This one’s called LESSONS IN RULE-BREAKING and there’s a sexy, belligerent artist and foot-in-mouth journo up to some hijinks in Northern Italy.

Me: Oooooo! Yummy! I look forward to another visit hon. 😀 And speaking of yummy… Here’s some cupcakes for the road dear. *passes over to go box* Happy Book Birthday again! *sings* Any many more…. 😉

  1. I excell at Pictionary! I’m a fairly decent artist but more importantly I always partner with my sister and we have a weird way of reading each other’s minds so we have a huge advantage over our opponents lol.

  2. I lovelovelove board games, we do a game night and we play Monopoly, Sorry, Clue and all the classics as well as odd fun ones and even sometimes set up elaborated avalon hill war or fantasy game boards. I could not possibly limit myself to a fav though…

  3. I must admit that I don’t play board games like I did as a kid. We do always play Christmas Yahtzee at the holidays … this is a family tradition now.

  4. we really didn’t play a lot of board games. We used to play monopoly but got bored half way through 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  5. Your interview made me laugh, Kat and Christy! 😀

I like CLUE because I’m good at figuring out things like that. But I really love Mouse Trap. LOL We never play the game like you’re supposed to though. We just set up the whole thing and let the marble roll to trap on the mice.

  6. My favorite is Monopoly and I guess I am about as good as those I play with..not exceptional but not bad either. It is a lot of fun.
