I think this is becoming a tradition! 😀 I love helping my girl Sidney Bristol celebrate her book birthdays and I’m excited to help her kick off her book tour for The Harder He Falls.
It’s the second book in her So Inked series. Book 1, Under His Skin made me fall in love with Sid (click HERE for my review). I think The Harder He Falls is even better! *Kermit flail* sooo good! I’ll review on Saturday.
Enjoy our silly chat and Sidney rockin’ her new Diamonds and Tattoos tank top (Perfect timing on the shirt!) + a fun blog post + a yummy excerpt + a contest!
See? There are so many reasons I love this girl!

No book release these days is complete without visiting The Book Tart herself. *muwah* Love me some Kat!
Thanks so much for joining us today. We’re celebrating all things pin-up, tattoo and So Inked. Tomorrow is the release of the second book in my tattoo artist series titled The Harder He Falls.
Kat and I kind of bonded over this series back when Under His Skin was still a shiny new book kicking off this unintended series.
Some things are really happy accidents.
You see, I never wanted to write Under His Skin or The Harder He Falls, which are books one and two in the So Inked series. Yes, series.
So how did I end up writing a series I had no interest in creating?
Last year Ellora’s Cave had a call out for books all things tattoo. I wrote a little book called Bound with Pearls, but the Editor in Chief took look at me over the internet and said I could do one better. More tattooy.
And she was right.
Take a glance at me and it’s easy to tell I know my way around a tattoo shop. I have plenty of tattoos, with plans for more, so it’s completely understandable that I could do something that embraced tattoo culture. So I started writing what I thought would be a little novella, that grew into a stand-alone novel, that spawned a whole series.
As an author, you put a piece of yourself into every book you write. It happens. It’s also one of the things which makes the us writers a little crazy when other people talk about “our baby.” But all children grow up, and I like to think of my books as adults. It makes that whole sex thing a little less weird when you think about it in that context.
Under His Skin was about healing and moving on. It was a book that spoke to me as I wrote it and helped me. I’ve loved hearing stories from readers who were touched by it.
The Harder He Falls is about deciding which path to take. Sometimes we get that choice, and sometimes we don’t. If I had known when I created Kellie that I would write a novel about her, I’d probably have put less of me into the book, but again, writing this book helped me close a chapter of my life. It’s also the first book I ever wrote that made me cry. It also makes me want to go back and take mixed martial arts classes, so there’s a wide range of stuff going on between the covers of this book.
Clearly writing is my form of therapy! What helps you?

Kellie shifted on the wooden bench, still restless. The evening breeze was cooler than normal thanks to a cold front blowing in. It was ridiculous that dropping into the nineties was considered a cool spell, but in the height of Texas summer, you took what you got. She swept her hair up into a knot and tipped her head back. The slight dampness of her skin, courtesy of the ever-present humidity, was a small price to pay for being able to sit outside. She’d shed the formfitting dress for jeans and a tank top and felt more like herself for it.
“How hot does it get here?” Quin plunked down their dinner and sat on his side of the picnic table. Behind him the food truck was starting to pack up.
“Can’t handle the heat?” It was too much to ask that the man be able to cope with everything. He’d sat through the tattoo yesterday without complaint, being a heat weenie wasn’t terrible.
His brilliant blue eyes stood out in the dim illumination of the parking lot light. “When you have A/C, why should you?”
“You do realize that it’s going to get at least ten degrees hotter and stay there, don’t you?” She unwrapped the tacos and inhaled the spicy aroma of peppers and onions mixed with tender beef.
Quin made a show of wiping his forehead with a napkin. “I’m going to melt.”
“Why the hell are you still here then?”
He hefted his burrito and wrapped the tortilla tighter. “Family.”
She nodded, understanding that reason above all others.
They descended into companionable silence while they ate. The garbled sounds of a Tejano station melded with the distant sounds of Highway 75 and the light street traffic up and down Greenville Avenue.
“What are you so wound up about, doll?”
Her head snapped around. Quin watched her with one brow arched.
“What?” she asked.

It can never be said that Sidney Bristol has had a ‘normal’ life. She is a recovering roller derby queen, former missionary, and tattoo addict. She grew up in a motor-home on the US highways (with an occasional jaunt into Canada and Mexico), traveling the rodeo circuit with her parents. Sidney has lived abroad in both Russia and Thailand, working with children and teenagers. She now lives in Texas where she splits her time between a job she loves, writing, reading and belly dancing.
