I really, really need to learn to manage my time better… *YAWN* it’s the middle of the night again and I’m scrolling through Tuesdays’, Today’s! New books… And half of them aren’t showing the covers! *head/desk* I’m a cover junky and I WANT the covers… But It’s too late right now to fix them all. I do like seeing books sorted by date though, which was one of the major reasons I started on this journey. 😉
The middle of the month seems to have fewer new releases. Click HERE to see all my database lists for today… over 400 print/digital releases. There are a lot of series romance titles and Montlake publishing today.
Lots of duplicate titles because of the tricky fact that they have different identifying ISBNs *sigh* Use the Advanced Search function to make the list more manageable.
With all the drama surrounding 12/21/12 and pottential End of Days, doomsday, Mayans etc, a term was brought to my attention- Preppers. A prepper is an individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances… Not a bad thing to be really. I personally have a hard time thinking beyond tomorrow let alone preparing for the future. But I can see the sense it it. <g>
I am so excited to help get the word out for Decadent Publishing‘s Prepper series launch this week that I am sharing the questions I asked the 3 launch authors. It’s just for fun of course. <g> There are serious preparations that can be put in place to prepare for the worst… or zombies. Answering this quiz is not one of them.
oh! The quiz doesn’t seam to show up on mobile devices. If you can’t see it *points down* then click HERE
So I was looking at my January new release database and freaking out that more than half the books aren’t showing covers… which means a LOT more work for me. Grr-argh 😛 Anyway, I was looking at the covers that did show for next month and I realized that covers with red, blues and purples jump out at me. So basically if it has a jewel tone color I’m all over it. Tattoos and pretty people don’t hurt either to lure my attention based on cover alone. Unnatural poses on covers just make me giggle and think of fantasy author Jim C. Hines trying to duplicate them. He’s actually taken his cover posing entertainment and education to the next level- Fundraising for a good cause! Click HERE for more information.
This cover doesn’t have an awkward pose or a yummy clinch or a hot guy. It actually doesn’t have a person at all. But it still grabbed my attention and I had to read the synopsis. Then I was hooked.
A Long, Long Sleep will be out with this cover on it’s paperback release January 22nd. I love the red digitized rose imposed against a plain black background. It’s simple and eye catching. I want to get this book! Take a look at the synopsis and tell me what you think. Or tell me what you think of the cover.

I have an obsession with books… I buy new ones even though I am no where near having read everything I own. Or even reading that many of my recent purchases. *sigh* I’ve been busy! But that hasn’t stopped me from buying more. 😛
I LOVE Christmas stories. I especially love holiday anthologies because I feel insane at this time of the year (yes! more so than usual 😛 ) and I like to be able to sit down and read a short story. It’s like a mini vacation.
Five Golden Rings has 5 holiday stories and it’s only $0.99 !!! Yep, I bought it after reading our guest authors character interview. It made me chuckle and yearn for a quiet moment to read a bit.
Rena Gregory’s story is called War Of The Magi. Phin and Ginny are the stars of the story and of the interview. *points down* I think you’ll want to pick up this book afterwards too. Oh! There’s also a giveaway too at the bottom of the post

Twenty Questions with Phin and Ginny from “War of the Magi”
These aren’t your run-of-the-mill yes or no questions. We’re catching up with our hero and heroine to see how the world has treated them since we saw them last. I’d love to ask Phin if he wears boxers or briefs, but given that he’s from the early 20th century, I find that his answer would hardly be sexy. To live out the romance with Phin and Ginny, read the rest of “War of the Magi” in Avon Impulse’s new Christmas anthology, Five Golden Rings

Fantasy Author S. M. Boyce’s
Take on World Building
Because of the heavy high fantasy influences I’ve had in my writing career, I tend to give the setting a fair amount of detail. I do my best to keep it as secondary, but many tell me the worlds I create become characters all their own. That’s one heck of a compliment, right?
In my opinion, setting is crucial to a novel. It establishes the where and settles the reader into the novel by giving them a concrete location. With a stable setting, the reader can dream as big as they want and let the characters move through what is for all intents and purposes a real place. The background becomes solid, and in making the setting as realistic as possible, the author lets the characters take ownership of the space.
The process of world building itself is incredibly complex and subject to massive rewrites and revisions. It’s all about finding a balance between too much and too little description. Fact is, you’ll never make everyone happy. I hear reviewers say the setting was perfect just as often as I hear others complain the description went on too long. So I do what makes me happy.
My to be read pile has another series added at the top that I am excited to tell you about. This *points down* is the second book in S.M. Boyce’s Grimoire Trilogy. It’s YA paranormal romance and I want to read it now! *head/desk* soon, cause I’ve overbooked myself… But it looks like one of my favorite type of stories. Action, adventure, epic world building and strong characters… and love.
Read about it and check out the first book, Lichgates HERE.
