Review of Reflected in You

Reflected in You (Crossfire Series #2) by Sylvia DayQueen of Tarts Review of

Reflected in You

by Sylvia Day

I could not put this book down! Today is it’s the print release and I already received my Amazon shipping notification 🙂 I am hooked on the journey of Eva and Gideon. Heads up :p This is definitely an erotic romance. It’s very steamy. There’s lots of sex and it’s very descriptive in the word choices and terms. That being said, it’s also a very powerful novel of love and the relationship struggles of two immensely damaged people who are drawn to each other and see a better reflection of who they can be because of each others love . *sigh* It’s very beautiful… If you have NOT read Bared To You  (here’s my review), don’t read this one yet!

Guest Post~ Sidney Bristol author of Under His Skin

When I realized I was visiting Kat today I knew what we had to talk about.

Yes, I’m going to talk about clothes! You see, Kat and I both have a thing for retro style dresses. Thank you for making my wallet hurt. It’s probably why I also spent a lot of time picking out the cast of Under His Skin’s wardrobe from a smattering of similar websites.

Cornucopia of YA ~Review of Art Of My Life

Queen of Tarts Review of

The Art of my Life

by Ann Lee Miller

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect… I read Ann’s Kicking Eternity and it was ok… It’s inspirational fiction and not something I normally read. BUT I was drawn to her characters, especially Cal and Aly and when I saw that The Art of my Life was their story I had to give it a try. I’m glad I did. The Art of my Life is catagorized as New Adult so it fits in with my Young Adult Celebration too <g>

Chat with author Ann Lee Miller

What was the inspiration/motivation behind the book?

I wrote Kicking Eternity because I have struggled, like the college kids and young adults who hang out at my house with my kids, to determine which dreams to pursue. I am intrigued by the “negative” things in our lives that push us toward that daring thing we were created to do.

As a young person, I dreamed of living as a hermit on the coast of North Carolina—which I had never seen—and writing. Instead I married and had four kids—and wrote. The hermit thing was a product of how I had been warped by a difficult childhood. The life I got oh-so-much-better suited me.

I’ve spent part of every year at camp for most my life—a natural setting for my book.

Review of Masquerade

Queen of Tarts Review of

by Nicole Flocton

When I finished reading Masquerade my stomach was a bit in knots from the last few intense scenes. I loved it! I loved Sophie and how brave she was when she met Alex and chose to act on their connection for a night of magic. That she was holding that memory close and then to find out she would be working with him! lol I connected with the emotions of the heroine and hero and I was wrapped up in their drama…

Bared To You Review

Queen of Tarts Review of Bared To You by Sylvia DayBared to You: A Crossfire Novel, Book 1

First off, this is my review of the erotic romance Bared To You and my reaction to the unabridged audio recording. The audio books is 11.5 hours long and narrated by Jill Redfield and I borrowed it from my girl Dawn of Day Dreaming Reviews .

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I felt a bit like Shirley Temple hearing something shocking. I’m sure I’ve read books as explicit as this one, I am a romance reader, from the sweet to the very sensual :-p BUT listening to it? Hearing some of the words and terms and activities out loud? *blush*

Bared To You felt extremely descriptive in the word choices and the writing of the sex scenes. And this books has a LOT of sex in it. <g> The narrator is amazing and does a great job making each character sound unique. And when she reads the passionate scenes… There’s a lot of…. emotion (ha! panting, groaning). Dawn asked if I was listening to Bared To You with headphones… Nope, But I actually got up (I was listening to the audio at my desk working on my database) anyway, I got up and SHUT the window. Listening to some of the scenes made me blush and squirm so much that I wanted to make sure no one could hear me listening to it!  I felt a bit voyeuristic, but I have never heard an audio so…. steamy before.

This story is very HOT. It’s about Eva and Gideon, two very emotionally damaged people drawn to each other by intense chemistry and kept together by INTENSE chemistry, obsession and later, love. Most of their emotional trauma is the result of sexual abuse they suffered as children. So, they have painful dark sets of baggage, to say the least

Eva has just moved to New York. She is not without means, but for reasons we find more about later, she rarely touches her trust fund. I liked Eva! I felt she was showing her strength of character and determination by not using her family connections to get a great job. She’s starting with an entry level position as an assistant  and her new job is in Gideon’s office building. Gideon is gorgeous, extremely rich, powerful and single. Side note- Where are all these young, gajillionaire, delicious, business moguls and how can I find one?  Eva meets Mr. Dark and Dangerous when he helps her get up off the ground after a fall (No, she does not fall a lot and she’s not clumsy, it was a one off) There are sparks (flames!)  and Eva thinks of sex (yep, shocking, women think about sex too) and she thinks about how beautiful and sexy he is… Very! and that’s mentioned throughout the story. *daydreams* But she thanks him for his help and moves on with her day.

For Gideon it’s the start of his pursuit of her. How he first tries to initiate their relationship is all kinds of wrong! Eva tells him where to get off,  “So what if I’m attracted to you? I expect most women are…. I have to actually like someone before I get all naked and sweaty with him.” You tell him Girl!

Gideon prefers his liaisons to be purely sex, but because of the intense connection between them he concedes to Eva’s demands that they become friendly and build a relationship outside of the bedroom.. or limo, or bathroom. *fiery blush* You get the picture. It’s all about chemistry between them at first. Very passionate, hot, raw, sex. Especially steamy listening to it, had to say that again. It affected me and I can still hear the narrator growl  “Eva”. Yep, more blushing!

There is so much character development that is revealed as a result of their intimate scenes Sex. Sex. Sex! (I just realized I was trying to find other words to use and at the beginning it is just SEX- I do feel it became love making later though) Eva and Gideon connect first on the physical level and share so much about themselves during sex. As their relationship deepens they learn more about each others’ issues and fears and insecurities and needs. They both have a HUGE need to be loved and accepted for who they are, scars, wounds and all. Neither of them has let someone get this emotionally close before and it’s scary.

There are emotional and gut wrenching scenes of them dealing with their baggage and I felt for Eva. My stomach hurt listening to her fears and insecurities. And I wanted to hug Gideon and fight his demons. Their past made me want to cry. But it does tell you why Gideon is obsessed with power and control and well, rather stalks Eva! And why Eva needs to feel a sense of choice and where her insecurities and jeolousy comes from. They are drawn to each other like magnets and NEED to be together. They learn to open up and be raw, unfiltered and bare their real selves with each other.

I have heard some people compare Bared To You to Fifty Shades of Gray. I can’t really comment on that because I haven’t read Fifty Shades (just the parody) I do know that both stories have powerful, rich, male protagonists. Again, where do I get one of those? with baggage (mine could do without that much baggage ok?) and a heroine… that’s not me! *shakes head* I’m getting silly cause wordpress ate half my review and I’m trying to recreate it…

Anyway, though my cheeks could have set something on fire for 2/3s of the story I am addicted! Yes, it’s fiction and the protagonists are very attractive and Gideon is ridiculously wealthy and extremely built… everywhere. 🙂 Yep, they have so much sex and multiple orgasms that I worried when they had time to do their jobs. But I felt that beyond the fantastical, steamy sex, Bared To You, at it’s core, is about two damaged people finding someone they can open up to and be honest with and it’s about the power of love. *sigh*

Here are a few of my favorite lines.

♦ “I’ve been loved before–by Corinne, by other women…But what the hell do they know about me? What the hell are they in love with when they don’t know how fucked up I am? If that’s love, it’s nothing compared to what I feel for you.”

♦ “I’ve always seen you, angel. From the moment you found me, I’ve seen nothing but you.”

♦ “I want there to be happily-ever-afters for the fucked-up crowd. Show me the way, Eva honey. Make me believe.”

♦ “If you crave something, I’ll be the one to give it to you. All of your needs, Eva, are mine to fulfill. Whatever it costs me.”

I just bought this book in paperback and I am eagerly waiting for the sequels. I will reread this book… in print! I don’t think I could listen to it again :p I recommend Bared To You if you read romance and are open to an erotic story with complicated, damaged characters and a lot of heart and heat.

The second Crossfire story, Reflected In You, came out October 2nd in ebook and will be in print October 23rd. I’ve blazed through it and loved it 🙂 I will post my review Tuesday.

“If I were to recommend any book today to readers who enjoyed 50 Shades…this would be the first one I would offer….scorching love scenes.”–Dear Author
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…
He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private worlds…and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…
